“The best time to figure out how you will reach someone's family during an emergency is before they arrive.” Danielle spent years working alongside healthcare coalitions, emergency managers, hospitals, EMS, public health, and government partners preparing organizations for emergencies.

As Readiness and Response Coordinator in Northeast Kansas, she supported hospitals and response partners, developed and exercised emergency preparedness and continuity plans, and took part in reunification planning, exercises, and real-world response. That work led her to ask what would happen if the connection between a person, the organization responsible for them, and the people who care about them was established before it was ever needed.

That thinking is behind reUNITEme^™. If a child is separated from a parent at an event, the next step should not be searching for contact information or waiting for someone to report them missing. It should be identifying the child, reaching the right contact, saying, “Your child is safe,” and giving clear reunification instructions.

Danielle believes preparedness should include the connection around a person, especially for older adults, children, and passengers traveling without family. She co-founded the Healthcare Coalition Partners of Kansas and holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University.

After more than 30 years in healthcare and more than 17 years in disaster preparedness, Tami has learned that some of the hardest problems in an emergency are not medical problems — they are information and connection problems.

A child has been found, but where are their parents? An older adult needs assistance, but they are traveling alone. Someone becomes ill at an event, but the friends they came with do not know their medical history or how to reach their family. A passenger may be perfectly safe, but the person waiting for them does not know whether they reached the gate or where to go for pickup.

In each case, the person may already be safe — the people who love them just do not know it yet. Tami's career includes nursing, EMS, rural and critical-access healthcare, healthcare coalitions, emergency planning, training, and exercises.

She co-founded the Healthcare Coalition Partners of Kansas, where she helps healthcare and response organizations build practical preparedness across organizational and jurisdictional boundaries. She believes preparedness means preparing the connection before it is needed, and that sometimes the most valuable thing an organization can tell someone is also the simplest: “Your loved one is safe.”
